Holidays offerings preview

Every year we love to put together special Christmas offerings—and this year’s is going to be extra-special.

We are cleaning, packaging, and expecting more orders soon to put together some wonderful kits . . . look for our offerings to go live in mid-December or earlier.

Vintage Field Arts

Roseann scoured charity shops from London to Cornwall to Hastings and came up with a really grand haul. More than a dozen vintage tins, a Victorian wooden pochade box, a vintage paint palette (which we’ll spruce up with a new white epoxy interior), some very special little containers to hold mini paint kits, tiny sketchbooks (not vintage!), paper handmade in Devon, and field arts tools—brass compasses, drawing points, folding wooden rulers, and a dozen beautiful brass and chrome (and possibly gold-plated) antique mechanical pencils, including tiny ones to match the sketchbooks.

Journal Sets

From the mom-and-pop paper arts (and more) company Cognitive Surplus we’re please to offer three wonderful sets:

  1. Night Sky Journal (hardcover) and Gel Pens (black paper and silver, gold, and white ink).

  2. For historical geography nerds, a hardcover blank journal and tool bag set featuring the “Comparative Table and Figure of the Height of the Principal Mountains and the Course of the Principal Rivers of the World” (J. Goujon & J. Andriveau, geographers) derived from the work of Alexander von Humboldt.

  3. And for bird nerds, a softcover journal and matching tool bag set; the bag when opened acts as a cup-holder for pens, pencils, brushes, and rulers; telescope the sides up to close for carrying longer tools or can also be closed at half-size.

Commonplace Books, Journals, & Small Bits

We are now dealers for Khadi Papers, which are handmade in India and Nepal. We’ll be offering book blocks of beautiful rough or smooth 200gsm paper with a long deckle edge (use as-is and decorate the paper cover or make your own hard cover); smooth-paper “Log Books” for commonplacing (daily journaling, list-making, idea-jotting, and quotes-copying); and lovely rough watercolor zig-zag cards in sets of five.

We’ll also hopefully have Peter Pauper Press offerings as well (still in the works at press time)—their leather-bound dot-patterned commonplace journal, artist tile sets in white or black art paper, and watercolor postcards for creating your own “Postcards from . . .” series.

Custom Field Knife

And last, and perhaps the best: a year in the making, we are thrilled to announce our own premium field knife, the Field-Master—a collaboration between Jonathan Hanson and knifemaker Elias Fedorowski of Exploro. Jonathan drew from his decades of using and reviewing knives, and judiciously tweaked the already excellent bushcraft design produced by Elias, who has been crafting knives for 10 years. The result is a knife that could well be the right choice if you could only have one knife for the rest of your life. Featuring: full-tang 4.5-inch Magnacut steel blade; scandi-grind edge; drop-point blade; bog oak scales secured with titanium Torx fasteners; carefully designed handle shape to suit all sizes of hands (or with gloves); custom leather sheath handmade by Jonathan to your specifications (color and left or right-handed). More details in mid-December, when we will begin taking pre-orders for February delivery.

An early prototype of the Exploring Overland Field-Master designed by Jonathan Hanson and crafted by Elias Fedorowski. (Final design will feature all-bog-oak scales, titanium Torx fasteners (three per side), and a center-placed jimping.)
